Are you vacating your rental? Here are a few things you should know and probably should do so you can give yourself the best opportunity to get your security deposit back.
- Read your Lease. Are you required to give a 28 day notice or a 30 day notice prior to vacating.
- Make sure you scrub and scrub and scrub leaving the floors, walls and bathrooms as shiny as possible.
- Clean the carpet. If you have pets you may be used to the smell but your landlord is not and can pick up on that quick. Sometimes its best to hire a company to clean the carpet then to try and do it yourself
- The toilet along with the sink, counter top, shower, faucet, and towel bar should be clean and in working condition when you leave.
- Mow the yard.
- Clean the windows inside and out.
- Throw out all rubbish especially in storage areas that have not been used in a while.
- Look out for any areas that may have oil accumulation.
Take the time to go over the apartment or house and make sure that you pay close attention to small details. Some things can be repaired if its minor and will cost you very little and by doing so it can potentially avoid a lot of headaches for you later on.
